Austine Bodenstab Life in the Camp We were taken to a war camp,Left to freeze in the tents,The Polish prisoners get heated cabins,Many others got frostbite wounds. We were given shovels and picks,The week was very hard,we had to move mountains,Some complained who were too old for such work. So much confusion and noise,They separated families,They took all our possessions,We had prisoner numbers tattooed on our arms. Three months- and every day was for us a year,Before we work a few of us prayed,We worked day after day,We survived, week after week, the same. Our hair was shaved,We had to wear matching striped outfits,People were experiments,We didn't know what they could do with us. Two days ago they marched us some people into the forest,They shot all of them- they killed 600 people,We were the next party to be killed,But I must remember that people are not born with hatred, they acquire it.My poem is about what life was like for the Jewish people in the war camps. It shows how painful and harsh there life was.
Life in the Camp
We were taken to a war camp,Left to freeze in the tents,The Polish prisoners get heated cabins,Many others got frostbite wounds.
